West Grand and East Grand cross country tracksters scrimmaged on Friday, September 2 in Hot Sulphur Springs. The 5K served as a warm-up for the regular season and set the pace for upcoming events.

Sophomore Tyler Scholl, running for East Grand, clocked the fastest times for the boys with a 18:14 and Sierra Smith, a junior also running for East Grand, clocked the fastest time for the girls with a time of 22:48.

Nineteen runners from West Grand attended the scrimmage, and five new runners to the West Grand cross country team completed their first 5K – Alexis Pasillas, Hannah Zagone, Sydney Almgren, Caitlyn Belcher and Mykaela Jones.

Seasoned West Grand runners saw many new season personal bests during the scrimmage – Joseph “Badget” Lengel trimmed nearly ten seconds to move to a 25:57, Jimmy Uren moved from 26:06 to 25:04, Silas Almgren from 26:14 to 23:21, Jonathan Belcher from 24:00 to 21:47 and Garrett Miller from 28:22 to 24:36.

Cody Docheff shaved off 11.29 seconds from his time to move from a 37:47 to 26:18 for a new career personal best. Others setting personal career bests were Jackson Raecke from 24:45 to 23:16,

Jessica Gregory from 38:14 to 34:40 and Miranda Thomas from a 27:58 to 26:59.

West Grand cross country coach Ryan Tripicchio said, “The team really ran well in Hot Sulphur. East Grand Coach Scotty Hicks doesn’t mess around when he makes courses. So the fact that our boys and girls ran as well as they did makes me incredibly excited to see what will happen at Lyons this weekend.”
