H&H Fence Company has recently celebrated its one year anniversary and was named business of the month for the Kremmling Chamber.

H&H Fence Company is a versatile company for business and property owners – they specialize in all types of fence work from commercial, residential, and agricultural. They construct pole barns, clear brush, supply temporary chain link fence, and build decks.

“We both like to meet all the great people in the area and help them improve their properties,” said co-owner of H&H Fence Company, Clay Hill.

H&H represents the owners, Clay Hill and Merritt Hooks.  Both Hill and Hooks grew up in the Kremmling area and were graduates from West Grand in 2005 and 2006 respectively, and both attended Mesa State after high school.  Hooks studied business marketing and Hill eventually transferred to Colorado State University to finish his bachelors in Agricultural Business.

After traveling and working in other areas, the two grade school friends knew they wanted to come home to the Kremmling area and fencing was a natural choice for them.

“We both worked for various fence contractors all through High School, and college. After all the years of experience we had building fence in the mountains we knew it was a business that we both knew very well. After lots of discussion we did what all small business owners do, and we made the big decision ‘to go all in.’ Well, at least quit our current jobs, spend all of our savings, and start our own business. Also since we grew up in Grand County, and Clay’s family is 6th generation ranchers in the valley we had lots of contacts in the area,” said Hooks of their decision to start a fencing company.

In order to keep up with demand for their services and to keep jobs timely, H&H Fence Company currently employs five people in addition to Hill and Hooks. They have also added equipment to make their jobs easier while still trying to maintain a low overhead.

“We own various pieces of equipment, and are always trying to purchase the latest and greatest stuff available to make our job easier and more efficient. With today’s technology a once very labor intensive job, has now become much easier and faster. But don’t let that statement fool you, it is still very tedious tiring work, but if it was easy there wouldn’t be any demand for our business,” Hill said.

One of the most challenging aspects of the fencing business for the two owners has not been meeting the demands of the fencing job but keeping up on taxes and books for their business.  However the duo admit, “The books are becoming much easier, the more hours we spend on them.”

The beautiful scenery at job sites makes up for the paper work and is an added bonus for the two outdoorsmen.  “We work in a beautiful place and get to see new things each and every day. We both enjoy the outdoors, and in the fall odds are that you will find us out hunting the hills and exploring the mountains. Pretty much anything that involves outdoors is liked by us,” they commented.
