Tracksters Continue to Set Personal Bests

The West Grand Track team spent three days at the Western Slope Championships in Grand Junction, May 5th through 7th. The Mustangs competed against the 11 team from their league. The girls’ team placed fifth and scored 51 points as the boys’ team finished in ninth with 38 points. Overall there were 22 personal records (PR) and four relay teams had their season bests. Prelims were held on Friday in both the 100 and 300 hurdles, and the 100, 200, and 400 meter dash. The top eight finishers went on to the finals on Saturday.

The following athletes went four for four, placing in all four of their events, Antonio Corrales, Kody Ekren, Peyton Bodemann, Sydney Ritschard, and Ralin Corrales.

Scoring for the boys’ was A. Corrales placing second in the Pole Vault with a PR

height of 11’6” as Ekren went 10’6” to bring home third. Both boys were part of the following three relays that placed. The 4X100 relay also included Travis Barnes and Luke Watermann, which placed fifth in 47.73. The 4X200 and 4×400 were made up of the same team members, Watermann, Ekren, A. Corrales, and Josh O’Hotto. In the 4×200, they placed fourth running a 1:39, this being a season best by 54 seconds. Their 4×400 finished sixth, had another season best time of 3:55.53, beating the old time by 11.31 seconds. O’Hotto placed fifth in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 19.03, after qualifying with a 18.79 in prelims, which was a PR. Tom Henderhan vaulted 10’0” to put him fourth. Placing sixth was the 4×800 relay team of Garrett Miller, James Matson, Jonathan Belcher, and Badget Lengel with a time of 10:39.90.

In the girls pole vault, R. Corrales brought home third with a 8’4” vault, as Gabby Willson claimed fourth with 7’10”, and Sydney Almgren took fifth with 7’4”. The 100 meter dash Ritschard had a PR in the prelims of 13.11, going on to place fifth, running a 13.72 in finals. She also placed fifth in the 200 meter dash finishing in 29.30. Also in the 100 meter dash, R. Corrales ran a PR in prelims of 13.39 and finished seventh with a 14.23. Bodemann placed fourth in the 100 hurdles, in 18.00, after having qualified with a PR in the prelims of 17.77. She also had a PR in the prelims of the 300 hurdles of 52.52 and went on to take sixth in 54.04. In the discus,

Bodemann threw 91’ to take seventh. Jill Wilkinson took sixth in the 3200 run with a time of 16:25.93 setting a new PR. The 4×100 relay members Willson, R. Corrales, Murphy, and Ritschard ran a 54.07 to place fourth. Having a season best in the 4×200 of 1:54.12 bringing down their time by 1.25 seconds and placing fifth was Bodemann, R. Corrales, Willson, and Ritschard. The 800 Medley also registered a season best of 2:08.98 an improvement of 23 seconds and captured sixth, was Charlee Manguso, Almgren, Murphy, and Hailey McNichols. Here are the rest of the PR’s for the Mustangs. Murphy in the 100 meter dash in 14.39 as Wilkinson had a 7:37.79 in the 1600 run. Marcos Ramirez threw 102’2” and Junior Dominguez 94’1” in the discus. In the 100 meter dash, Barnes ran a 12.41 and Gabe DeMattoes had a 12.40. There were three PR’s in the 1600 run as Belcher improved to 5:43.35, Lengel to 5:41.43 and Cody Docheff ran a 6:13.35. Belcher also improved in the 3200 run with a time of 12:24.40. In the 800 run Lengel brought his time down to 2:28.43 and Miller improved to 2:21.28. David threw the shot a distance of 24’4” and rand the 400 meter dash in 62.86. Also, in the 400, Matson ran a 65.50.

West Grand will host the Joe Shields Invitational today, with field events starting at noon and running events starting at 1:00 p.m. This is the last regular season meet until the State meet, May 19th through May 21st.
