Band leadership workshop

On September 4, selected students from West Grand High School in Kremmling and Soroco High School in Oak Creek attended a leadership workshop hosted by the Smoky Hill High School Band in Cherry Creek, Colorado. The featured speaker was Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, or “Dr. Tim” as his students and colleagues call him is a teacher, clinician, author, composer, consultant, and adjudicator.

His writings and high energy motivational workshops have inspired thousands of students and seasoned pros alike to become better music educators, better music students and better leaders in whatever community in which they belong. He is a gifted communicator, known to pepper his talks with such inspirational or wry aphorisms, such as “The world of academia is famous for pushing knowledge, not wisdom”, or “Happiness isn’t getting what you want, Bowery what you get”, or simply, “create what isn’t”, or “Expect more, tolerate less”.

Approximately 500 band students from all over Colorado attended the workshop. The West Grand and Soroco band students, by their band directors, Dan Bowerly and Kelli Turnipseed.
