Drivers identified in Hwy 9 accident

On Sunday, September 15, Colorado State Patrol responded to an accident involving nine individuals. The accident occurred at approximately 1:33 p.m. on Highway 9 near mile marker 118 near the Heeney entrance.

The accident involved a 2019 Subaru SUV driven by Cesar Aguilar Garcia, 37 of Kremmling and a Toyota driven by Steven Riede, 58 or Parker.

The Subaru driven by Garcia was heading northbound on Highway 9 while the Toyota driven by Riede was heading southbound.  The initial Colorado State Patrol investigation shows the Subaru entered the southbound lane and collided into the front of the Toyota.

Garcia, the driver of the Subaru, sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Summit Medical Center.  His passenger, a 32 year old female, was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Summit Medical Center with minor injuries.  Other passengers in the Subaru included: a 59 year old female who was transported to St. Anthony Central via Medivac with life threatening injuries; a 66 year old male was transported to Summit Medical Center with serious injuries; a 13 year old male was transported to Summit Medical Center with serious injuries, two 12 year old males were transported to Summit Medical Center – one with minor injuries and one with serious injuries; and a 7 year old female was transported to Summit Medical Center with serious injuries.  Neither of the 12 year olds was wearing a seatbelt.

Riede, the driver of the Toyota was transported to Summit Medical Center with serious injuries while his 19 year old female passenger sustained only a minor injury and was not transported.
