Fatal Rollover Crash

On Friday, January 04, 2019, at approximately 0744 hours, troopers were dispatched to a possible single vehicle rollover crash on Grand County Road 1, Trough Road, near mile post 9 in Grand County, Colorado.  This location is approximately 11 miles south west of Kremmling, CO.

A gray 2006 Toyota Tundra was eastbound on GCR 1 near mile post 9 and lost control.  The truck began to rotate counter clockwise and skidded off the left side of the road.  The truck rolled numerous times down a steep embankment and came to rest approximately 700 feet down from the roadway.

The truck was driven by a 37 year old male, Mr. Toby J. Hargadine, from Kremmling, Colorado.  Mr. Hargadine was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.  A 27 year old female passenger, Miss Crysta L. Berntsen, of Minturn Colorado was also pronounced dead at the scene. 

The crash is currently under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol.  Agencies assisting the Patrol at the scene included the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Grand County EMS, Kremmling Fire, the Grand County Coroner’s Office, Grand County Search and Rescue, and Grand County Road and Bridge.

The Colorado State Patrol wants to remind all drivers to be aware of ever changing road and weather conditions while visiting the mountains of Colorado.
