West Grand High School will be hosting a fundraising concert on Wednesday, November 20, at 6:30 pm featuring local professional saxophonist Dan Bowerly and the West Grand students attending the WIBC honor bands in Seattle. There will be no admission charged for attending this concert, however donations will be requested to assist with the expenses for 3 students and the director attending the Western International Band Clinic in Seattle, November 22 – 25, 2019.
The Western International Band Clinic (WIBC) is an opportunity for music students and band directors
to learn from the finest conductors, composers and musicians in the world.
At WIBC there will be 4 honor bands, which will rehearse for 3 days and then perform a concert. Working with these prominent composers and conductors will help them to become better musicians and better understand the art of musicianship. The honor band students will also have leadership clinics with Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, the most renowned motivational speaker in the music field.
During WIBC, band directors have the opportunity to also learn from the same outstanding conductors and composers as the students. There will be clinics throughout the day that focus on the challenges of teaching band in the public schools and specific techniques for serving our students with love and encouragement through musical excellence. In addition, our students will attend concerts by outstanding high school and university bands that have auditioned and selected to perform at this unique event.
The cost of attending will be approximately $1,000 for the director and $600.00 for each of the 3 students that have been accepted: Zach Howington, Trombone; Igor Bergman, Clarinet; and Ollie Bergman, Bass Clarinet.
