Grand County Commissioners Hire New County Attorney

The Grand County Board of County Commissioners is proud to announce that Christopher Leahy has been selected as the new County Attorney.

Leahy not only graduated Magna Cum Laude from Gonzaga University School of Law, but has also earned a Graduate Ceråtificate in Mediation and Dispute Resolution from Colorado State University as well as a Master of Science in Sports and Athletics Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.

In addition to receiving his education, Leahy began building up his record in public service. He devoted the bulk of his legal career to representing tribal governments, gaining significant experience working with all levels of local, state, federal and tribal government. Leahy’s commitment to public service also includes serving as a volunteer Firefighter with Evergreen Fire and Rescue as well as working with both city and county mediation programs. He was recently recognized by the Jefferson County, Colorado courts for his extensive work as a volunteer mediator.

Aside from his experience, Leahy remains relevant in his practice.
His written work was recognized through publication in the most recent edition of the American Bar Association’s Section for the Dispute Resolution Magazine and he has also presented for the Colorado Bar Association at the family law program at this year’s National CLE Conference in Snowmass.

Leahy has two sons, both of which no longer live at home. One of his sons is a pilot in the U.S. Navy. His other son is currently attending school at CU Boulder and works for the Craig Hotshots Crew fighting Colorado wildfires throughout the summers.

Former County Attorney, Robert Franek left the County in November, 2018. Chris Leahy will start as Grand County Attorney on March 4, 2019.
