House explosion in Grand Lake results in fatality

On March 24, at 12:39 a.m., the Grand County Communications Center received a report of a structure fire and explosion on Mad Moose Lane, near Grand Lake. Fire, EMS and Deputies responded and quickly learned the house was a total loss. One resident, Mark McLean, age 63, was seriously injured and transported to a Denver area hospital, where he remains in critical condition. A second resident, Susan McLean, age 66, of Grand Lake, was unable to escape the fire and was found dead by emergency personnel when they were able to enter the residence

The cause of the explosion and fire is still being investigated but is believed to be a natural gas leak.

Memorial Fund Established

Mark and Ann McLean at last year’s Views and Vistas event. Mark is listed in critical condition after the explosion of his home while his wife Ann was a fatality. The Grand Lake Rotary has established an “Ann McLean Memorial Fund.” Use of the funds will be determined by Ann’s family. Donations can be dropped off at the Grand Lake Center Office or mailed to Grand Lake Rotary PO Box 723 Grand Lake Colorado 80447. Checks should be made payable to “Grand Lake Rotary Foundation” designate for: “Ann McLean Memorial Fund.” Donations of $50 or more if paid by check will receive a tax exempt letter from the Foundation.
