For those of you familiar with the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Middle Park Conservation District (MPCD), some of you may be wondering if the office is still open. The answer is YES, the office is still OPEN! The Kremmling NRCS/MPCD Office has been short staffed since Mark Volt’s retirement from NRCS in 2017; nevertheless, they are still here and are committed to serving the residents of Grand and Summit Counties with their conservation needs. Katlin Miller is the Conservation District’s Executive Director, and Mark Volt is the District’s Conservation Technician. The Glenwood Springs NRCS Office has taken over management of the Kremmling NRCS Office, so the team from Glenwood (Stephen Jaouen, Derrick Wyle, and Kathleen Knight) also come to Kremmling on a regular basis to assist our Grand and Summit county landowners. The team from Glenwood has experience in range management, soil and irrigation, and forestry. Jennifer Perkins, a partner biologist with NRCS who lives in Steamboat, also covers Middle Park and can help with sage grouse work.

As far as Katlin and Mark go, Katlin is mostly working from home and afar this summer, but she does come into the office at least once a week (mostly on weekends). Katlin is available by phone every day. Mark is usually in the office 4 days every other week.

Though Mark officially retired from NRCS a couple years ago, in his position as District Conservation Technician (DCT) for the Conservation District, Mark does much of the same work that he did before. You may contact him with questions or technical assistance related to range, hay, and pasture management; spring developments; grass seeding; and irrigation improvements projects. Mark has 30+ years of experience assisting landowners in Middle Park, so he is a good resource here regarding range, hay, and pastures in Grand and Summit Counties.

For assistance with NRCS programs and technical projects on your land, contact Mark at 970-724-3456, ext. 3, or Derrick at 970-404-3441. For seed, tree seedling, PAM, or tire tank sales, please call Katlin at 970-724-3456, ext. 4. This will transfer straight to her cell phone and she will try to get back to you within a day. For assistance with Sage Grouse work, contact Jennifer at 970-879-3225 x 109.
