Kremmling Firefighters battled flames that engulfed a cabin on County Road 2416 in Big Horn Park on Christmas Day. The fire was reported at approximately 8 p.m. Due to heavy snowfall, firefighters then battled conditions to reach the scene. According to Brady Mathis of the Kremmling Fire Protection District, “It took us over an hour just to get to the property and by the time we got there, the cabin was already lost.

Only a handful of Kremmling firefighters were able to make it to the fire via snowmobile or on foot. No fire trucks were able to make it to the scene.” Firefighters were able to save the garage by using shovels and snow to prevent the garage from igniting. Mathis noted the garage was very well built with fire resistant materials..The cabin was occupied at the time, but there were no reported injuries.

Big Horn Park is a gated community with limited access, but Grand County Road and Bridge responded to a request for aid and help to plow snow. Several neighbors also aided in plowing snow. Because Kremmling’s crews were so far away from town, Hot Sulphur Springs/Parshall Fire District covered Kremmling’s district. Grand County Sheriff’s office and Grand County EMS also responded.
