Colorado State Brand Inspector Lyle David Horn died June 15, 2015 in Ft. Collins, CO. He was 54 years old. Lyle was born on April 5, 1961 in Kremmling, CO. to Jack E. and Carole W. Horn. He was the third of five children and grew up on the Horn Ranch in Granby, CO, where he participated in 4-H and American Quarter Horse Association events. He raised sheep and steers, which he showed along with his siblings at the Arizona National Livestock Show in Phoenix and the National Western Stock Show in Denver. He also showed an early interest and talent in roping, which he pursued for the rest of his life, winning many awards. He competed at the American Quarter Horse Association World Championships. Two of his early horses were Donegan and Nail Keg. Lyle graduated from North Park High School in Walden, CO in 1979. Among Lyle’s many adventures were hunting caribou in Alaska, working in California and Oklahoma, roping in rodeos across the West and travelling to the Virgin Islands. His calf roping photo at the January 1999 National Western Stock Show was featured on the front page of the Denver Rocky Mountain News. Lyle was a true cowboy, who carried a big loop and rode a very willing horse. A gentleman on horseback, he had a heart as big as the Western Sky. He was kind, generous and always willing to help anyone who needed it. He cut a wide swath through life with a warm smile, heartwarming laugh and infectious love of life, branding the hearts of family and friends forever with his unique personality. Lyle worked hard, played hard, and was a good co-worker, great father, devoted son and brother and rambunctious uncle. His fearless love of life,winning smile, courage in the face of adversity and loyalty will forever light the lives of family and friends.
Lyle is survived by his son Hunter and his former wife Christy, Granby, CO, parents Jack and Carole Horn, Granby, CO and Maxwell, N.M., sisters Jacqueline Horn Manley (John), Craig, CO, and Melinda Horn, Maxwell, NM, brothers J. Scott Horn (Julie), Granby, CO and Mark Horn (Tammy), Littleton, CO. He is also survived by nieces Bridget Manley Patterson (Daniel), Rawlins, WY., Shaylyn Horn, Littleton,CO, and nephews Dustin Horn, Littleton, CO and Jack Scot Horn, Granby, CO. Services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at Winter Park Christian Church in Tabernash, CO.
Lyle is remembered and loved by a great number of friends. In lieu of flowers two accounts have been set up. Jack and Carole Horn have set-up a trust account for Lyle’s son, Hunter.
