A full contingent of 18 delegates, as well as several alternates, traveled to the front range last week to participate in the Republican State Assembly meetings. These delegates were elected at the neighborhood precinct caucuses March 6 and the Grand County Assembly March 15. During district assemblies held on Friday, exciting newcomer Peter Yu was selected as a candidate to the primary ballot for US Congress District #2. District #2 represents Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Eagle, Gilpin, Grand, Jefferson, Larimer, Summit, and Park Counties. Later in the day, Kevin Sipple was nominated to the primary ballot as a candidate for Colorado House District #13. This district represents district includes Jackson, Grand, Gilpin and Clear Creek counties, as well as the western portions of the City of Boulder and Boulder County.

On Saturday, April 14, Grand County delegates joined over 4200 delegates from across the state to select candidates for state offices, including Governor, Treasurer, Attorney General, and Secretary of State. In the hotly contested race for Governor, Walker Stapelton and Greg Lopez were both named to the primary election ballot. These candidates will be joined in the primary race by Vic Mitchell who collected petition signatures. In the Treasurer’s race, Justin Everett was named to the ballot from a crowded field of contenders. Justin will vie with Polly Lawrence, who also collected petition signatures to join in. George Brauchler will be the Republican candidate for State Attorney General. Incumbent Wayne Williams is seeking re-election to serve as Colorado Secretary of State.

In summary Grand County’s delegates were proud to represent Grand County. The delegates came away feeling that a strong group of candidates was selected, candidates that will represent the values of Grand County when elected. Next up is the primary election, which will be held June 26.
