wrestling notes by coach Brian Strathman

The West Grand Wrestling team had a busy travel weekend. The team traveled to Hayden for a dual on Thurs. Night.

On Friday, the team left for a weekend in Wyoming. Friday night they dueled Saratoga and Rawlins WY. The event was part of a Wyoming versus Colorado event weekend the team was invited to. It was an exciting night in front of a packed gym with only the center drop light on. The team wrestled well winning both duals.

Saturday the team competed at the Rumble in Rawlins. This was the inaugural event which took teams from Colorado and Wyoming to compete in a dual team format. This was the first time any of the team members were able to compete in such an event. It takes a large team to compete in this type of event as advancement is based on team scores not individual. The team wrestled well competing with many of the top Wyoming teams. It was a fun event for the team to come together in a different format and compete as a team. It would have been exciting to see the entire team competing as our placement could have been better, but all the members who attended enjoyed the weekend.

This weekend the team is off to the 2A Region 1 wrestling tournament. This is the State Qualifier in which the top 4 wrestlers in each weight class qualify to the Pepsi Center next week for the State Championships.

Again this year the Region is loaded with ranked teams as 6 of the top 10 are in our region. The tournament begins on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m at Delta HS and continues through Saturday with Finals beginning at 2 p.m.
