West Grand track teams take 12th at Eagle Valley

The West Grand track team traveled to Eagle Valley over the weekend to compete against 19 other schools. Both the girls and boys finished 12th, as the girls finished with 29.5 points and the boys scored 16 points. The coaches continue to switch up relays to find the best competition and athletes continue to try different events and improve on their normal ones. The Mustangs had five season bests in relays and 12 personal records (PR) on the day.

Scoring on the boys’ team was Jonathan Gale in the triple jump with a distance of 38’6” to claim fifth and improving his PR. Taking fourth in the shot put with a 39’11.5” was Marcos Ramirez. In the pole vault at a height of 10’7”, Brady Gore took seventh. Also, bringing home seventh in 48:18 was the 4X100m relay team of Jose Rosas- Valente, Jake Bentler, Luke Watermann, and Travis Barnes. The 4X200m relay was made up of the same boys except it was anchored by Josh O’Hotto. They placed sixth in 1:39.11. Both relays had season best times.

For the girls’ the following placed for WG. In the pole vault, Ralin Corrales brought home a first place finish at 8’7”, as Rheann Pesch finished in fifth at 7’7”, and Gabby Willson also at 7’7” placed eighth. Pesch also had a PR in the triple jump with a distance of 30’5” to take eighth. Sydney Ritschard ran the 100m dash in 13.61 to claim fourth place and threw the discus 87’10” setting her PR and taking sixth place. Another PR was set by Emma DeSanti in the high jump at 4’7” to finish in seventh. With a time of 1:58.32, the 4X200m relay team of Corrales, Jacey Murphy, DeSanti, and Ritschard took fifth place.

Other Mustangs improving their PR was Jessica Gregory in the 800m run at 3:45.86. Gina Manguso threw the discus 80’10” as Maya Ramirez improved her shot to 21’4”. In the boys shot Cameron Wood had a distance of 25’1” as Ashton Williams three 21’10”. Wood also threw the discus 68’4”. In the 100m dash Williams ran a time of 17.89. Rounding out the PR’s is Conner Miller in the 300m hurdles with a time of 50.08. Three more relay teams set season best times at the meet. The 4X400 team of Rosas-Valente, Gabe DeMattos, O’Hotto, and Bentler finished in 3:50.37. With a new time of 10:29.74, the 4X800 team of Grady McCalister, Badget Lengel, Jimmy Uren, and Garrett Miller. The girls Medley of Pesch, Sydney Almgren, Willson, and Morgan Jones improved to 2:13.10.

West Grand will be in action again, this weekend in Glenwood Springs. The pole vaulters will compete on Friday with all other events held on Saturday.
