Recording two more victories this past weekend, the Lady Mustangs beat the Rangely Panthers and DeBeque Dragons in league play.

West Grand volleyball hosted Rangely on Friday and sent them home in three sets. Dominating the first set, WG played at a high level and jumped out to a 14-3 lead, never looking back, and took the set easily 25-12. In set two, the Mustangs lost some intensity as the Panthers gained some momentum. Has both teams won some volleys and the teams exchanged points throughout the match, Rangely kept the match close but the Mustangs would prevail, 25-23. Early in the final set, points would again be exchanged until midway through the set as WG would two separate runs and find themselves up 20-10. However, the Mustangs would not put the finished touches on right away, making some errors, letting the Panthers claw their way back in. Mustangs would fight back, taking match and set, 25-20.

Finishing the night, Senior Emma DeSanti would lead the way with 10 kills, three blocks, 12 digs, and seven assists. Sophomore Alex Schake followed up with seven kills and 11 digs. Having 14 digs and 16 assists of her own was junior Josy Wheatley. Sophomore Maddy Probst was 100% at the service line after 17 serves and added five kills, while senior Mikayla Shearer had four kills and 9 digs. Freshman Sage Lechman also had 9 digs joined by senior Charish Jansen with 7 digs. The JV team played a decisive match as they beat the Panthers in two sets, 25-8 and 25-14.

On Saturday, the team traveled to DeBeque with only varsity playing a match. The ladies brought home the win in three sets, 25-19, 25-20, and 25-17. In the match, the Mustangs played very lethargic and let a lower skilled team hang out. We are nearing the end of our season and we must step it up. We need to play with excitement and desire. We are at the top of our league with some tough matches coming up, if we want to take it to the next level the girls need to have a better mind set.
Serving 100% for the Mustangs was Schake, serving 12 times, and Shearer 10 times. Schake registered 15 kills as DeSanti added 10. DeSanti also 13 assists and three aces. Wheatley had 16 assists. With five kills a piece was Shearer and Probst, Probst also picked up 6 digs.

The Mustangs will host Vail Mountain in a league matchup on Thursday with times of 5:30/6:30 p.m. This will be the last home game and Senior night for the Mustangs. Come cheer and help pack the gym!
