The Grand County Historical Association’s Emily Warner Field Aviation Museum was awarded the prestigious History Colorado Caroline Bancroft Award at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s pancake breakfast and fly-in on July 6.

The Caroline Bancroft Award recognizes history accomplishments which provide a venue to share unique history. The preservation of Grand County Aviation History began in the summer of 2015, with the Granby Airport Pioneers Wall of Fame. The Fantasy of Flight, room for children of all ages, opened in 2016.

The Emily Warner Field Aviation Museum also offers Pre-School Aviation History Adventure Days, which features a children’s pretend “dress up like a pilot” area, a children’s aviation history reading area, and historic reenactment of aviation events with a Grand County connection. Children’s aviation history toys, such as a Barbie Doll dressed as Captain Emily Warner, also provides interactive play. The next Pre-School Adventure Day is Friday, September 6, from 10:30 to 11:30, where the airport museum and airplanes invite exploration.

The aviation museum is all volunteer, and open every Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 1 through August 31, 2019
