On Friday, a cold and dreary day, with a few rain showers, the West Grand Track team competed at the Clint Wells Invitational meet in Craig. West Grand was one of the 15 teams in attendance. The girls finished ninth with 33 points, as the boys scored 30 points and in tenth place.

Two athletes finished the day placing in all four events. Sydney Ritschard took third in the 200 meter dash in 28.22 and was sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.67. Peyton Bodemann placed fourth in the discus with a PR throw of 99’9” and was sixth in the 100 hurdles finishing in 18.61 seconds. Both Ritschard and Bodemann were also members of two placing relays. The 4X100 relay took third place with a time of 53.42 with teammates Ralin Corrales and Jacey Murphy, and the 4×200 relay that also included R. Corrales and Gabby Willson finished in 2:00.02 bringing home fifth place. R. Corrales ran the 200 meter dash in 29.43 placing her seventh. The Medley relay included Willson, Sydney Almgren, Murphy, and Hailey McNichols finished in seventh place with a time of 2:12.99. Having a time of 5:41.50, the 4×400 relay team of Willson, Charlee Manguso, Almgren, and Jill Wilkinson took sixth. Rounding out the scoring for the girls’ team was Almgren in the 300 hurdles, taking eight with a 56.81.

Three boys’ relays scored points for the Mustangs. In the 4×100, Travis Barnes, Luke Watermann, Antonio Corrales, and Ivan Mendoza ran a 47.14 to place them third. Kody Ekren, Watermann, A. Corrales, and Mendoza ran a 1:40.19 in the 4×200 relay taking fourth. Bringing home sixth place, was the 4×400 relay made up of Ekren, Watermann, Luis Dominguez, and A. Corrales with a time of 4:17.06. In the 110 high hurdles, Mendoza ran a 15.91 to take first place. Jonathan Belcher had a personal best in the 3200 run, earning him a fifth place with a time of 12:24.73. Also, having a personal best and placing in the shot put was Marcos Ramirez with a distance of 38’3” to take eighth. Other PR’s on the day was Ramirez in the discus with a throw of 102’1”. In the 1600 run, Ian Rountree ran a 6:27.42. The 4×800 relay team of Garrett Miller, James Matson, Belcher, and Badget Lengel ran a time of 10:32.22.

In a rescheduled meet held on Tuesday, April 26, the Mustangs traveled to the Berthoud Invitational. The girls’ team finished tenth, scoring 29 points as the boys placed twelfth with 18 points. There were 20 teams in attendance. There was a total of 14 PR’s set at this meet.

Scoring points for the boys was Mendoza in the 110 high hurdles running

a 15.73 to capture first place. The team of Barnes,  Watermann, A. Corrales, and Mendoza took fifth in the 4×100 relay having a time of 47.12. Having a season best, was the 4×200 relay team of Josh O’Hotto,  Watermann, A. Corrales, and Mendoza running a 1:39.54 to take fifth. Girls that placed for West Grand was R. Corrales in the pole vault with a height of 8’4” to earn seventh. Ritschard ran the 100 meter dash in 13.83 and had a PR in the 200 meter dash in 27.89 to take third place in both. Bodemann placed seventh in both
the discus with a throw of 98’7.5”, a PR at the time, and in the 300 hurdles in 53.94. Running a 54.28 and taking fifth was the 4×100 relay team of Bodemann, R. Corrales,

Murphy, and Ritschard. Also placing fifth was the 4×200 team of Willson, Manguso, Murphy, and McNichols in 2:04.49. The Medley relay of Willson, Almgren, Murphy, and McNichols finished in 2:08.93 to take sixth.

The League track meet will be held in Grand Junction and will start today with the Pole Vault at Noon. All other events will be held Friday with a start time of 9:00 a.m. and go through Saturday, starting at 8:00 a.m.
