Credit card pay and free and low-cost health screenings on tap
GRANBY — 9Health Fair volunteers and first-time- ever attendees can get added
discounts at this year’s Granby 9Health Fair, set to take place from 7:30-11:30 a.m.
Saturday, April 7 at Granby Elementary School.
As well, people interested in the free and low cost health screenings offered at the
9Health Fair should take note that it’s taking place about a month earlier than usual.
This year’s 9Health Fair will continue to offer, as at last year’s fair, the chance to pay
with credit card on the day of the event. Babysitting will also be offered on-site for
parents who will use the fair but need to bring their children as well.
“We’re excited to announce that this year first-time attendees of the fair can get a 20
percent discount,” said Tim Schowalter, 9Health Fair chairman for the Rotary Club of
Granby, which sponsores the event. “These first-timers merely need to register online an
apply a discount code to get the better rate.”

Schowalter added that there are also a limited number of vouchers available for

“We’re really excited to be offering the very popular 9Health Fair again this year,”
Schowalter said. “We want to thank Grand County EMS for doing the lion’s share of the
work for the event.”
Drug disposal will be offered at this year’s 9Health Fair in Granby. So, those with
prescription medications that have been sitting around in the medicine cabinets that are
out of date, bring them to the Fair and there will be a designated drop-off spot for those
medications.
As with last year’s fair, a Wellness Zone will be offered. In this area, alternative
health care providers can showcase the services they offer. Massage therapists, Yoga
practitioners, herbalists and other alternative care providers are encouraged to contact the
health fair by calling Christian Hornbaker at 887-2732 for more information.
9Health Fair screenings and tests provided are priced far below the regular costs,
which include a comprehensive blood chemistry analysis for $35, blood count test for
$25, prostate specific antigen screening for $35, vitamin D test for $50 and a colon
cancer-screening test for $30. The hemoglobin A1c test (blood sugar measurement) is
also being offered for $35. Free screenings include height, weight and body mass
analysis, among many others.
As for last year’s 9Health Fair, fasting is not required prior to the drawing of blood.
Based on the most current research findings, the 9Health Fair Medical Advisory
Committee has determined that fasting is not required (optional) for blood screenings. To
best prepare for a blood draw, drink plenty of water and continue to take prescription
medications. People with diabetes should not fast. Check with your medical provider for
specific recommendations.
Health fair participants are encouraged to pre-register on-line by going to
https://9healthfair.org and going to the on-line registration link. While day-of- event
registration is still offered at the fairs, the on-line registration does offer some benefits. It
allows for pre-payment, streamlined registration on the day of the event, quicker access
on-line for test results and longterm availability and comparisons of test results over time.
Aside from the screenings and tests mentioned above, the 9Health Fairs also offer:
Vision tests, spinal screening, nutritional screening, height and body weight
measurements, blood pressure checks, an “ask-a- pharmacist” site, body-fat skin fold
analysis, body in balance tests, eye health screening, hearing screening, as well as stress
management screening and many other tests or screenings. Not all the screenings are
available at all the sites.
Additionally, the 9Health Fairs feature educational exhibits manned by
representatives from Grand County Emergency Medical Services, the American Cancer
Society, The Grand County Rural Health Network and many others.
